In part, SYA is working to normalize abortion because shame is absolutely toxic and eliminating shame in ones’ own life is absolutely liberating. But we’re also fighting to normalize abortion because we refuse to live in a world where reproductive freedom is only enjoyed by people of privilege, and that is exactly what we’re looking at today. The people fighting to eliminate abortion access are also fighting to keep white supremacy intact. So yes, normalize abortion, but also, normalize talking about the fact that abortion bans are racist, and that’s a feature, not a bug.
This design is part of a collaboration with Salomée Souag. Salomée is a muralist, designer and creative from Switzerland who holds her Peruvian and Algerian ancestors closer to her heart, her community, and her work. Salomée currently resides in Portland, and prides herself in her multi-cultural identity.
