My boyfriend and I had only been living together for a few months when I found out I was pregnant. We both have personal and family histories of substance abuse and mental illness and we have no interest in passing these traits along.
I knew my decision was the right one, but I struggled with it because I’d already had one 10 years ago. The people at the clinic were super supportive and non-judgmental, even comforting. My boyfriend came to each appointment and sat with me in the waiting room.
We’re married now and my husband got a vasectomy because we still feel the same way. We know we’re not fit to be parents. Taking care of each other is the best we can do.
Remember that our stories are ours to tell. We’d love to hear your story too!
