As a man, I am supportive of women and women’s need to make choices, however the reality of the need for abortion became really evident in 2006, when a co-worker became pregnant.  She was in an abusive relationship and destined to be tied to her abuser by a child.  She already had a child and was also struggling to meet ends meet.  We discussed this, and she began to realize that for her to terminate the pregnancy was the best option.  She, however, had no money for the procedure.  I loaned her the money and drove her to the clinic.  She terminated the pregnancy.  Her strength, resolve and courage to make a choice to better her life and the life of her son was remarkable.  Before, at the clinic, and afterwards, I could not understand how such a procedure should be illegal or restricted.  It did not make sense.  What did make sense was how she proceeded with her life and was able to chose a better life for her and her son.
