I was 31 when I got pregnant. At the time, my relationship with my boyfriend wasn’t stable and neither were our careers. We were living in an expensive city that we couldn’t afford and many parts of our lives weren’t on solid ground.
My boyfriend and I would not have stayed together had we kept our baby – we weren’t ready to be parents and that child would’ve suffered the consequences. When we were ready, we got married and had two kids. Neither of us would’ve gone on to have the solid marriage, successful careers, and loving family we have today. I highly doubt that my two kids would even exist.
Deciding to get an abortion wasn’t difficult for me – it was the responsible thing to do for my then-self, my future-self, the child I would’ve had and for my future children.
It was sad but I’ve never regretted my decision.
