So I’d been applying and interviewing for jobs (I work at sea) all throughout lockdown, a fantastic opportunity arose and start date is 2 weeks away.

It gets to 4 days before I’m supposed to leave and my period is 11 days late at this point, no unusual symptoms but lots of cramps and massive boobs!!

So I take a test and the two lines appear… I’ve never been maternal so this was a huge set back considering my time scale too!

I called BPAS (from the UK) and they were amazing. I was able to get the pills and everything I needed the very same day. The first pill I took to block hormones was horrific, I had all the ‘expected’ symptoms for about 16h. This was definitely the worst part of the whole experience.

Once I inserted the first 4 pills, not much happened until the last 2 went in (4h later).

It was a slow start and I worried for 2-3 days that ‘not much’ was really happening. I had a few clots and not much actual blood until the 3rd day, today as i’m writing is the 5th day and I’ve had a constant light flow of fresh blood since, which I can feel will continue for another week+

Everyone reacts differently and that’s so important to remember. This website helped me, but I would’ve preferred reading stories that state blood loss and pain rather than fighting US systems. I worried for too long about my blood loss and pain!!

We as women will always stick together, it should never be a man’s choice to decide. Never. Not before, now or in the future. All hail compassionate leaders like Jacinda Ardern.
