I was thrilled when I got pregnant easily when my first child was 1. I had a hard time getting pregnant the first time. I was 38 years old. At the first ultrasound, the doctor deemed it a perfect pregnancy. That changed when I went in for prenatal testing at 11 weeks. I will never forget the look on the doctor’s face as he put his hand on my shoulder and said there was an issue. At the time, he gave it a 50/50 of a healthy live birth. The CVS test confirmed that the fetus has Trisomy 18 which in the genetic counselors words, made it incompatible with life.  Living in California and with good health insurance allowed me to get a surgical abortion two days later at the same hospital I delivered my son. I was treated with compassion every step of the way. I have never regretted my abortion. I am only sad that it happened.
