In a city in Canada of over 700,000 people, I was lucky that I had access to a medical abortion.

I was lucky that I lived close enough and could afford transportation to the one abortion clinic in my city. I was lucky that my city even had one.

I was lucky that I could afford to take a day off work for an appointment that was only available two days a week during the hours of 8am-2pm.

I was lucky that the $70 fee did not mean choosing between gas in my car or groceries in my fridge.

I was lucky that I had the privilege of getting an abortion, a privilege that I now realize not every woman in Canada has access to.

I was lucky, but luck should not be the deciding factor of a woman’s right to choose.

Luck is not good enough.
