I was 19 and on active duty, a thousand miles away from home. Had just been selected for the Army Nurse Program and wouldn’t be able to go if I was pregnant. The clinic was 100 miles away and only open on weekdays, which meant I was forced to disclose to my very conservative male commander so that I could get permission for the time off. I regret nothing. Now I’m a nurse in reproductive health, and I help women access abortion services.
