I already had 3 children, I was a full time student, part time job, no support network and then I got pregnant using condoms. It came as a shock because we were always so careful. We couldn’t handle more responsibilities. I grew up in foster care from birth to 18 years old with 4 failed adoptive placements. I didn’t want to continue the cycle of dysfunction. I knew at 12 weeks pregnant it was the right thing to do for my family. Everyone thinks adoption is the answer, but I now work with children in the foster care system and no one talks about the number of failed adoptions in this country. It’s very real. My kids are now young adults and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. I’ve only ever shared this with 2 other people in my life…
