August 2005. Hurricane Katrina was all over the news. I lay in my bed watching it on repeat over and over again. I just had an abortion, at 14 years old.

When I found out I was pregnant, I immediately told my mom. Her response, “What do YOU want to do?” My response, please get this out of me. I cannot do this. She did the research and found an abortion clinic about an hour and half away, due to the fact we lived in a rural, conservative area of Indiana. I am so thankful for a mother who supported my decision. I know others are not as lucky, without her, I most likely would not have went to college, found a great career, got married and had my first child last year to a wonderful husband.
