SYA has launched a new series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to raise awareness about abortion pills by mail—specifically, that people can obtain pills in advance of pregnancy, just to keep on hand.
SYA partnered with Detroit-based, Korean-born director Na Forest Lim to create two short, emotionally resonant vignettes. Through poetic, vérité-style storytelling, the films follow Poppy (a single mother in her 30s) and Dani (a teenager) as they each confront an unwanted pregnancy, a scenario typically portrayed as stressful, disruptive, or downright harrowing.
But not for Dani or Poppy. Both have easy access to abortion pills: Dani’s friend has brought some in her backpack, and Poppy keeps some tucked in her dresser drawer. This depiction—of people taking charge of their own abortions, without interference or struggle—feels downright visionary. But the reality of pills in advance exists right now. People just need to know this option exists.
Help us spread the word.
