LAWS AREN’T REAL Patch
$7
Laws have nothing to do with morality and they are not a description of what is possible; they’re a framework created by the worst people we can think of, in order to justify selective legal persecution of the most marginalized. Of course we’re furious about the overturning of Roe, but we also reject the idea that courts should have had any say to begin with. We don’t respect the authority of the Supreme Court or the legitimacy of the Dobbs decision, and we refuse to let abortion bans dictate our reproductive options. Most of the country seems to agree: people who live in states where abortion is banned are still having abortions, thanks to the availability of pills by mail, scrappy activist networks who have been building pathways for decades, and communities that are committed to helping each other find access no matter what. In the broadest of strokes: abortion is ours. Courts don’t determine the conditions of our lives, we do. And yes: abortion bans are an insult. They are harmful. But they’re a suggestion, put forth by a bunch of assholes. They are as impactful as we are compliant. The extent of the harm done is up to us. This patch is a collaboration between SYA and Bryan Funck of beloved Louisiana metal band Thou.
This is a super-detailed embroidered patch with iron-on backing and merrow edge that measures 2.38″ w x 3″ h.
A NOTE ON THIS COLLECTION:
Living in a state where abortion is banned doesn’t mean you can’t have an abortion—but unfortunately, having an abortion in a state where abortion is banned does mean you may be criminalized for doing so. Please know what your local laws are, even if you decide to ignore them, and be mindful of the things you can do to mitigate legal risk. Please be aware that wearing items like this may increase your risk of criminalization, and use your best judgement.
