After bearing 5 children and miscarrying at least two others, my grandmother became pregnant again. This was before Roe. She did not want to have another baby or miscarriage and decided to terminate her pregnancy. In order to do this legally at the time she had to have an entire hysterectomy, since she could not have a simple abortion. She was so happy when Roe was decided and forever fought for women’s reproductive rights. She knew first hand what a difference access to abortion care makes in women’s lives.
