Each year, I try and use this day to take stock. I note how grateful I am for the life I have and for how much I have grown. It’s been three years since I was studying for an international terrorism exam in a Planned Parenthood waiting for my turn to be helped. I had to skip class and drive three hours from my small Appalachian mountain town to have the chance to try again. Whenever I do think about that morning all I can think about it how thankful I am for that abortion, for the support I had at the clinic and from my friends, and for choice. In the fall I will be heading across the Atlantic to work toward a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies. I never imagined myself in that waiting room before I was there but I had never imagined myself taking these big steps either. I feel lucky that I had the chance to try again and imagine new things.

Noted-I am thankful that I had the opportunity to choose me.
