Want to start something? This movement is yours. We’ve created some tools below to help you get started.
You can help normalize abortion even if you haven’t had one of your own. We have a number of poster sets to choose from—hang one in the window of your home or business or make some wheatpaste and get guerrilla—the possibilities are endless! And if you can, please take some pics and submit them to the site.
The first series is a set of of 11.5″ x 17″ posters made in collaboration with our friends at Civilization.
The second and third poster sets are from a series SYA did for our #TogetherforAbortion campaign in January 2018. One set is a color-separated version for screenprinting, and the other is a pdf file for anyone with access to a printer. This poster set is inspired by art contributed to the SYA movement by the following artists: Erin Frost, Kirk Damer, Emily Nokes, Andrew Lamb Schultz, Shannon Perry, Maggie Prendergast, Mary Anne Carter, Civilization. Special thanks to designer Mary Anne Carter for providing cohesion to our idea and pulling these posters to life with us! <3
The fourth poster “Abortion is Not the Problem” was created for SYA by artist John Criscitello. It is high-res and available to download. SYA wheat-pasted a giant poster-sized version on the streets of Seattle and you can too! Please feel free to share in whatever way makes sense for you. Non-commercial use only, please. When appropriate, please credit artist John Cristcitello. Thank you!
Wearing a button that has the word “ABORTION” on it is a great way to start conversations about abortion in your everyday life—and that’s what SYA is all about! Button making parties are a great way to get people together and make neat stuff.
We have an array of designs for you to choose from! Kit #1 has some tips, templates, a logo pack and print ready sheets of various SYA designs, & Kit #2 features templates specifically made for SYA by artist Mary Anne Carter. Kit #3 has some gorgeous and colorful buttons made my artists Tatiana Gill and Andrew Lamb Schultz, and tattoo designs from Seattle’s Valentine’s Tattoo. Post some pictures of your buttons on this site –it would make us so happy to see what you come up with!
Although access to abortion care is basically non-existent for millions of Americans, the country is home to over 4,000 fake clinics. These fake clinics lie and manipulate the most vulnerable pregnant people they can find in the hopes of dissuading them from choosing abortion. Gross, right? That’s why our friends at Lady Parts Justice League spearheaded a campaign to #ExposeFakeClinics, and there are a ton of ways for you to participate.

One easy way to start conversations about abortion is to pick up some SYA swag: we’ve got a range of garments, zines and media. And trust us: wearing something that says the word “ABORTION” changes the world around you. Every. Single. Time. All sales support actions by SYA!
Got a blank wall? We have gorgeous portraits of people wearing SYA’s “Everyone Knows I Had An Abortion” shirts in places all over the USA. You can project these pretty much anywhere – try playing this reel inside your art gallery or bar instead of sports or old movies, or get some extension cords and play the reel on an exterior wall! You can loop the reel on any TV with an HDMI port or run them through a projector.
Step 1: Download video file below or Stream online
Step 2: Set media player to loop (Quicktime: View > Loop; Stream automatically loops)
Step 3: Project on a blank wall or stream from a monitor in a venue, bar, gallery, etc.
Step 4: Take pics and post on social with the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion
The Shout Your Abortion book is a collection of abortion stories, creative work, and tools designed to help readers join the movement to normalize abortion by starting conversations in their own lives. SYA wants to help facilitate these conversations however we can—and that’s why we’re sponsoring book clubs across the country!
Book clubs can be large or small, digital or IRL, public or private. If you feel ready to host your club you can purchase books through our shop. We invite you to use the How to Host document below to help facilitate and the Reading Guide to help guide conversation. Let us know when your club is happening via the Inquiry form and we’ll send you some stickers and buttons!
If you need assistance like discounted or free books, a coaching phone call, or tailored advice, please fill out the Inquiry form below. We’ll be in touch.
The below materials will help you learn more about how to host an SYA book club, how to create a welcoming environment, and what to look for in the SYA book.
Print your own SYA stickers! All you need is some sticker paper, scissors, and access to a printer. Have fun & put them everywhere!
