Join Crosscut Festival for a panel discussion on #Activism featuring SYA’s Amelia Bonow. Bonow is the Founding Director of Shout Your Abortion, a movement dedicated to broadening the existing cultural discourse around abortion. In 2015, Bonow’s abortion disclosure inspired a viral outpouring of abortion stories on social media and received extensive media coverage. Bonow left graduate school and began organizing, securing non-profit sponsorship within a few months. Now in their fourth year, Shout Your Abortion works to create places in art, media, and real-life events all over the country for people to talk about abortion on their own terms. Bonow proudly serves on the Board of Directors of the Abortion Care Network, and has been honored by Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country. In 2017, Shout Your Abortion and Seattle design firm website won a Webby Award for activism. In 2018, PM Press published Shout Your Abortion’s eponymously titled book, an anthology of art and abortion stories. Former Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards has said “Shout Your Abortion reflects what makes me most hopeful for the next century”.
